Terrorist; How Does The Group End?

Terrorist and terrorism eventually will end although I don’t deny, almost every month the new terrorist group rise due to the various factors. But how does this group end? Recently RAND has done their research and has come to the conclusion either the group will transform their struggle to the political process or the group end naturally when their members arrested or perish in counter-terrorism activity carried by police intelligence. The survey shows, from 648 terrorist groups that existed from 1968 to 2006, 43 percent has settled down in transition to the political process. This is much related to the terrorist goals. If their struggle were politically motivated then the group will lay-down their arms when they were given a political transformation opportunity. But if the terrorist group remain as a terrorist organisation after the political negotiation then policing is the best option and most effective strategy. Using military to counter the terrorist is not a wise decision unless the terrorist are well equipped with military equipment capabilities and they only can be over thrown with conventional war.
The research by RAND shows; * Religious terrorist groups take longer to eliminate than other groups.
* Religious groups rarely achieve their objective. * Size of a terrorist group is a significant determinant of a group’s fate. * There is no statistical correlation between the duration of a terrorist group and ideological motivation, economic conditions, regime type or the breadth of terrorist goals. * When a terrorist group becomes involved in an insurgency, it does not end easily. * Terrorist group from upper-income countries are much more likely to be left-wing or nationalist and much less likely to be motivated by religion.
