Why John McCain Lost: My Perspective

John McCain, war hero in Vietnam with huge experience in foreign policy and issues lost to Barack Obama which was largely untested, inexperience, unknown with his race added to his challenge but he make history when announced as the winner for 44th United States of America president.

What went wrong and why Vietnam hero John McCain lost? i. Bush factor; Ex-Hong Kong governor said, he never meet the weakest president other than George Bush. His term in office was occupied with conflict from the day one. From counting ballot paper, 9/11, war on terror, Afghanistan and Iraq war which cause the dead of hundreds of US military life have diverted bush promises to American. While people were begging to stop the war, he made a unilateral decision and championed the superpower and arrogant attitude. His failure to overcome the economy and security crisis makes American fed-up with him and Republican. McCain which belongs to Republican faced a major obstacle to disassociates him self with Bush. Although McCain promised to be a very different president yet he fails to explicitly reject Bush or his administration policy. ii. Sarah Palin; initially her present gave an impact to McCain’s campaign but then voters realised it’s a wrong strategy for McCain to select Palin for number two. She was totally lost on international issues. On top of that she was facing an ethics probe in Alaska which eventually rules she had abused her power. While McCain struggling to get the fund to run his campaign, Palin went to window shopping and spend $150,000 on cloth and accessories. McCain thought he can use Palin as a vote puller from American's especially those who supported Hillary Clinton but unfortunately the strategy didn’t worked and analysis said, it’s back fired. iii. McCain at final round of campaign have tried character assassinations strategy to demonise Barack Obama even to connecting Obama to domestic terrorist organisation. Fence sitters rejected the allegations and retaliate by voting against him. In one of the debates, Obama stand cool while McCain seemed to be trying to keep him self under control, which through more negative coverage. American wants to hear what McCain can do not the character assassinations. iv. The most important factor was McCain fail to counter the Obama’s administration policy. Obama promised to transform America to Americans but McCain was seen to talk more on his past achievements. To control the damage done by the Bush administration, American needs the new policy. A policy which will work for all American irrespective of race and colour. Obama promised new policy, the new America but McCain almost tried to retain and patch-up the Bush policy. No one can deny, McCain’s role in Vietnam War but the reality was America lost to Communist in Vietnam war. It shows, McCain need to produce a new doctrine if he want to win the war because the challenges ahead American and world is not about communism alone any more but various unknown challenges which will make America either collapse or go to bankruptcy if wrong policy implemented. Exit polls shows the economy was the major deciding factors but McCain fail to present a good proposal to counter the downfall of American financial market. He didn’t mention ones about the middle class American but Obama never fail to talk about the “middle-class” American in his speech. McCain policy was more pleasing the rich rather than middle class or those in below the poverty line. Definitely there are more factors like the consistency of Barack Obama and his personnel strength but I believe the above mention factors played major role to defeat McCain. Obama has given a new hope to the entire American’s with the hope he will walk his talk to give a new America to American’s.
