2 Important Incidents on International Platform

Turkish Government disclosed that the missing Saudi Journalist Jamal Khashoggi last stop was Saudi Arabia’s Consulate in Istanbul. Video recording shows, Jamal walk in to the office but he never walks out. Initial investigation indicated that Jamal’s life end in the consulate office. Saudi refuted the claim but was not supported with any hard prove.

Meng Hongwei, Chief of International Police (Interpol) went back home to Beijing and since then no one know what happen to him. Media says he vanished after returning home and Interpol said he has resigned. However, China’s National Supervisory Commission in a one-line statement said that Meng is currently under investigation on suspicion of the violating the law. Nevertheless, foreign sources have reported Meng’s detention could be the reflection of power struggle in Beijing. Interpol said they will ask for clarification…

Interestingly, both incidents happened on international platform. One was called back while another allegedly killed in diplomatic office in foreign land. How do both cases will implicate the diplomatic relationship between the host and the sender countries are the progress that need to be observed carefully.

Most probably, Meng Hongwei case will have less friction, as he was called back but Jamal’s case may cause a diplomatic friction between two countries, as the alleged murder was said happened inside the diplomatic office in Istanbul. It’s true, mission office is the territory of the respective country but than the rule of law of the host country need to be uphold. In any circumstances, no host country would want to compromise its sovereignty. Let’s observed the next move of Ankara.
