Bojinka Project

[updated: 25072008 / 00:22] On February 26, 1993, Ramzi Yousef attacked New York City’s World Trade Center in an unsuccessful attempt to topple both towers. Two years later, he would flee a hideout in Manila, leaving behind a laptop computer that contained encrypted files outlining a plot to blow up 11 US commercial aircraft in a single day. Yousef was arrested in Pakistan and in 1998, he was sentenced to life in prison in the United States.
Project Bojinka was exposed in January 1995 when Philippine police arrested Abdul Hakim Murad in a Manila apartment where bomb-making equipment was found. While in detention he reveals the kamikaze-type suicide attack plan to plant timed explosive devices on 11 US airliners simultaneously and to crash-land an airplane into CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia. Thank GOD the plan was never materialized.
