[updated: 01102008 / 10:12] Pirates are building up their arm capability. The tantalising move to unload rocket-propelled grenades and anti-aircraft guns from a hijacked MV Faina, Ukraine freighter is alarming. The hijacking activity by pirates in Gulf of Aden is rising and need tangible actions by the United Nations, Security Council. The huge number of military equipment fall into the pirates which was backed by Somalia’s insurgents will dismay the strategy to counter the terrorism activity worldwide. Existential of warship around the Gulf of Aden as sentinel is not good enough when the hijacking of ships occurring as though no-body business. Definitely the hijacked military equipments will go to black market and a rapid increase in the numbers of arm proliferation by terrorist organisation will increase the military capability of theirs and will contribute to the insecurity to the world stability. It’s high time now to revisit the decision to send the military equipments to the buyer’s state by vessels. Military Equipments is a sensitive business and the origin state shall take the responsibility to make sure the equipments reach the target state within two days after the equipments load to cargo. Any ignorance on this sensitive business is a disgrace and detrimental to the security.
