Terrorism in Digital Age

Analyst believes 9/11 was the most notorious and well planned violence attacks in 21st century and so far none of the terrorism expert denied. When the “American 11” crashes the “North Tower” of WTC no one said New York under attacks but after “United 175” crashed the “South Tower” the national security agency has no option other than declaring “US under Attacks.” History will remember 9/11 because no security research officer thought the terrorist will use plane as the weapon. Mumbai attacks will be remembered forever because the terrorist have used the technology to plan their movement and re-strategies the attacks. The youth which was heavily armed went to Mumbai by sea navigated with Global Positioning System (GPS) equipment. They used “Blackberry” hand phone, CD’s holding high resolution satellite images and multiple cell phones with switch able SIM cards [Source said one of the SIM card was purchased in America] and they spoke using satellite phone. They identified their self as Deccan Mujaheddin and sent e-mails to news paper office. When the intelligence traced the mail, the computer server was in Moscow but later discovered the message originated in Lahore, Pakistan. Mumbai attacks is a yardstick to the world intelligence agency. Whether you agree or disagree, the reality is the terrorism have emerged from conventional attacks to the digital age. In order to counter the digital age terrorism, the world intelligence agencies need to revamp their counter terrorism policy. While I don’t deny, we need the technology to face the future challenges but the question, who “control the technology” became very important. As far the technology in good hand, we are safe but the moment technology goes to mentally sick individual then we need to start counting the body bag.
