Sharing My Discussion...

Today I had a good discussion with one of my colleague and I'm sharing one part of our discussion for my viewers

2. ... going back to your question on the definition of terrorism, we don’t have one as of now. The UN even in the immediate aftermath of 9/11 failed to adopt the Convention on terrorism which spell-out the definition proper of terrorism, and the deadlock continues to this day.

3. In fact before 9/11 the definition was fluid and many countries started to put it into the law after the terror attack with the main purpose for insurance claims. Therefore, you will not found one standard definition and it will differ from one country to another.

4. Nevertheless, you can found Malaysia’s definition of terrorism in the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012. Under this law, terrorism can be define as follows:

i. to cause, or to cause a substantial number of citizens to fear, organised violence against persons or property;

ii. to excite disaffection against the Yang Dipertuan Agong;

iii. which is prejudicial to public order in, or the security of, the Federation or any part thereof; or

iv. to procure the alteration, otherwise than by lawful means, of anything by law established;

5. Nevertheless, interesting to mention here, now-repealed the Internal Security Act or well-known with acronym ISA provides a clear definition of a terrorist. So, I wish to use the definition of terrorism as written in “Security Offences” since our discussion was focused on how to secure our border.

6. Going back to your point, its true, the World is not fair and it will never be one. I understand Palestinians’ aspiration for independent state. In many occasions I have openly stated my firm believe that Palestinian deserved an independent state. Israelis are occupying Palestinian’s soil and the only solution is political remedy. The audience commended my stand, but unfortunately when I spoke about the atrocities on Tamil ethnic in Sri Lanka, then the same audience said I’m supporting the LTTE. Why double standard? On last week before the civil war between Tamil separatists and SL army comes to the end, in May 2009, within one week, over 40,000 Tamils were slaughtered mercilessly and almost 200,000 people were killed way back from 1948. The statistics were recorded by many international organisations including the UN. No international media broadcasted this genocide except of CH4 in UK. Just lately the UN started to investigate SL for war crimes. Not to mention on the massacre in Timor-Leste, Acheh, South Thailand, Papua New Guinea within the Southeast Asia region as well as other part of the World. So if you are saying it’s unfair, yes the world will never be a reasonable one. It’s all geo-political interest. But I can assure you, no one can silent the political aspirations until it’s achieved.

7. However, this injustice shall not be a reason for Malaysians to mute themselves when foreigners, as well as those local extremists trying to use all the avenues within our soil to run their terror activities for what ever reason or trying to suppress our fellow Malaysians for their political agenda. If we don’t bring them under the government control then sooner or later it will damage our human relations, unity as well as the harmony built by our forefathers.
